Advanced Sports Technology & Performance Testing – Level 2

Theoretical Content (1 Hour)
K-Theorem Pillar: Performance Pyramid, Mind, Movement Matrix

👉 This course currently includes theoretical content only.
📅 Registration for face-to-face practical classes will be available soon. Stay tuned!

1. Course Overview

This course deepens your understanding of sports technology in clinical and athletic decision-making. You’ll learn to interpret complex performance data, apply it across rehab and return-to-sport scenarios, and track meaningful trends over time.

💡 Numbers don’t make decisions. Clinicians do—with clarity, context, and confidence.

2. Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Use technology to track fatigue, readiness, and return-to-sport markers
  • Interpret complex variables (force–time curves, asymmetry, impulse)
  • Integrate testing findings into progressive rehab and performance planning
  • Link data with clinical history and movement analysis
  • Communicate data-driven decisions with athletes, clients, and coaches

3. Advanced Metrics & Clinical Use

MetricClinical Significance
Rate of Force Development (RFD)Speed of force production; low RFD = fatigue or reduced readiness
Eccentric ControlSafe force absorption; low control = overload injury risk
Impulse (N·s)Total force over time; evaluates sustained effort
Asymmetry Index>10–15% imbalance = risk or compensation
Force–Time Curve ShapeReveals quality of force application, fatigue, or breakdowns

4. Return-to-Sport Integration

StageFocusExample Metrics
Return to BaselineLoad tolerance, symmetryPeak force, asymmetry, force–time curve
Return to TrainingCoordination, speed, controlRFD, balance, sequencing
Return to SportFatigue response, performance under pressureRSI, concentric/eccentric control

👉 Testing isn’t just about passing — it’s about demonstrating readiness across multiple systems.

5. Red Flags vs Yellow Flags

FindingClinical Action
>15% asymmetry (persistent)Delay return; reassess control/strength
Sudden RFD dropInvestigate fatigue, stress, or under-recovery
Flat/irregular force–time curvesIdentify compensation or neural drive loss
Plateau in metricsReview load, neural input, psychological readiness

6. Testing Combinations for Functional Profiling

Combine tests to reveal patterns, not just snapshots.

  • Single-leg CMJ + HumanTrak landing → power + control
  • Mid-thigh pull + overhead squat → strength + trunk sequencing
  • Hop test + Y-Balance → dynamic stability under load
  • Drop jump RSI + fatigue profile → chaotic sport readiness

7. Communicating Results

For Athletes:

“Your left leg is producing 10% less force. It may not feel different, but this data helps us protect and improve it before you return.”

For Rehab Teams:

“Symmetry is improving but force development is still delayed. Let’s delay higher-load drills until RFD improves.”

Visual Strategies:

  • Show baseline vs current curves
  • Graph progress over time
  • Relate numbers directly to goals

8. Therapist Philosophy

  • Technology supports, not replaces, clinical skill
  • Always test in context (sport, job, lifestyle demands)
  • Focus on trends over time, not one-off data
  • Use results to educate and empower clients

9. Clinical Scenarios and K-Theorem Connection

10. Case Reflection Prompt

  • “Which metric gave you the biggest insight this week?”
  • “What would you have missed without the data?”
  • “Did the athlete understand what the test showed them?”
