📅 Registration for face-to-face practical classes will be available soon. Stay tuned!

1. Course Overview

This course takes you beyond simply leading group exercise. You’ll learn how to lead with purpose, communicate with clarity, and design sessions that educate and inspire.

Whether working with beginners or seasoned athletes, the goal is to help participants understand:

  • Why they’re doing each movement
  • How it contributes to long-term performance, injury prevention, or confidence

You’ll also build skills in program structuring, accountability, and flow of information, ensuring every session is part of a larger, intentional journey for your group.

💡 Anyone can teach a class — the best instructors guide, educate, and lead a transformation.

2. Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Create purposeful programming using biomechanical and clinical reasoning.
  • Communicate the “why” behind exercises in simple terms.
  • Build client trust through leadership, clarity, and consistent messaging.
  • Implement structured monthly themes (e.g., spine, hip, shoulder).
  • Lead with both energy and education in every session.

3. Instructor as Leader

What Makes a LeaderWhat Clients Experience
Sets intention and structureClear purpose for each session
Shares knowledge (not just reps)Understands how to move better and why
Models confidence and calmFeels safe, challenged, and supported
Holds people accountableFeels responsible for showing up and giving their best
Creates community and cultureFeels part of something bigger than a workout

4. Communicating the “Why”

Examples:

  • “This core circuit is here to protect your spine when you’re tired — especially useful at the end of a long day or game.”
  • “We’re focusing on single-leg work today to improve your balance and reduce knee overload — especially if you run, jump, or sit a lot.”
  • “You’ll notice we’re moving slowly through this — that’s because control builds strength more than speed right now.”

💡 Keep it short, practical, and always relevant to real life.

5. Flow of Information and Program Themes

Introduce clear themes so participants know what’s coming — and why.

Example Month Structure:

WeekThemeFocus
Week 1Low Back PainCore control, hip mobility, glute activation
Week 2Neck and Shoulder HealthPosture drills, scapular stability, thoracic rotation
Week 3Knee Strength & ResilienceSquat patterns, single-leg control, hamstring balance
Week 4Shoulder PerformanceOverhead mechanics, rotator cuff stability, breath control

👉 Each week builds understanding. Your role is to link the pieces together.

6. Accountability and Retention

Great group instructors create systems of shared responsibility:

  • Remind people of goals weekly.
  • Use names, encourage individual progress.
  • Track challenges (e.g., “4-week posture reboot”).
  • Share educational insights via messages or post-class recap.
  • Give recognition: “I noticed your effort today. Keep going.”

💡 Consistency builds community. Structure builds belief.

7. Coaching vs Instructing

InstructingCoaching
Counts repsTeaches intent behind the rep
Tells what to doExplains what to feel, adjust, or challenge
Delivers workoutsDelivers understanding and purpose
Aims for short-term motivationBuilds long-term movement literacy

👉 You’re not just leading a class — you’re reshaping how people move, think, and perform.

8. Therapist Philosophy in a Fitness Setting

  • Speak science in simple terms.
  • Cue for quality, not just intensity.
  • Focus on recovery as much as resistance.
  • Teach participants to assess their own progress.

Example phrasing:

  • “If your left side feels tighter during this — that’s your body telling us where to focus next time.”
  • “We use pauses in these movements to build real-world joint control.”

  • “How did your words shape your group’s effort or understanding today?”
